Van Transportation

ALTERNATIVE TRANSPORTATION

Sussex Montessori School (SMS) contracts van service for its students who experience transportation barriers where bussing cannot accommodate.

Requests for van transportation must be submitted, approved and assigned through the school’s Transportation Office.  Once approved, the van company will contact the parent/guardian directly to arrange the schedule and pick up/drop-off times.

The van ride is an extension of the school day and behavior consistent with Montessori Grace and Courtesy is expected.  While riding the van, students are to adhere to the van rules and expectations.  Parents must complete the Van Safety and Etiquette Form below and return to the school prior to your first pickup.

Van Safety and Etiquette Form  (please sign and return before first day of school)

IMPORTANT RIDING & SAFETY INFORMATION

  • A responsible adult is required to remain with the child while awaiting the arrival of the van in the morning and must meet the child at the drop off location at the end of the day.
  • If a parent or legal guardian is not present for drop off and cannot be reached by phone after repeated attempts, the child will be transported back to Sussex Montessori School where the parent/guardian will need to pick them up.
  • To ensure the health and safety of all passengers and drivers, face masks are required to ride the van. Students must remain seated, facing-forward at all times, and exhibit Grace and Courtesy towards their peers and drivers. Violation of these may potentially result in temporary or permanent suspension of riding privileges. For the complete list of van rules and consequences, please review and sign the enclosed Van Safety and Etiquette Form.

TRANSPORTATION CHANGES

Teachers and Drivers will receive a roster of students so they know who to expect, when, and where those children will get on and off.  Any changes to your child’s schedule will need to be communicated with the school office and company as far in advance as possible.  If your child is sick and/or will not be riding the van that day, please let us know.  If you choose to transport a van-riding student to or from school, please let the office know beforehand.  Day-to-day transportation changes can be reported via email at dismissals@sussexms.k12.de.us.
